§ 40931 Tomato Processing Fee Collection

Key Takeaways

  • •If you run a place that takes tomatoes to make stuff (like sauce or juice), you have to collect fees for checking and certifying those tomatoes.
  • •These fees are paid by both the place that processes the tomatoes and the farmers who bring them in.
  • •The place that processes the tomatoes is in charge of making sure these fees get paid.

Example

A farmer brings tomatoes to a factory that makes ketchup.

The ketchup factory has to collect fees from both themselves and the farmer to pay for checking if the tomatoes are good enough. The factory is responsible for making sure this money gets to the right place.
