§ 31683 Local Dangerous Dog Control

Key Takeaways

  • •Cities and counties can make their own rules about dangerous dogs.
  • •They can choose to follow all, some, or none of the state's rules.
  • •They can make breaking the rules a crime or add stricter rules.
  • •No rule can target a specific dog breed unless health/safety laws say so.

Example

Your city decides pit bulls are dangerous and bans them.

This is not allowed because the law says rules can't target specific breeds unless there's a special health or safety reason.
