§ 31153 Dog Seizure On Livestock Property

Key Takeaways

  • •If a dog goes onto someone's land where they keep farm animals (like cows or chickens), the owner or worker can catch the dog.
  • •The owner or worker won’t get in trouble for catching the dog, even if the dog’s owner is upset.
  • •This rule is only for places where farm animals are kept, not for regular homes or parks.

Example

Your neighbor’s dog runs into your backyard where you keep chickens.

You can catch the dog to protect your chickens, and the dog’s owner can’t sue you or call the police on you for doing that.
