§ 302 Fee Refund Authorization

Key Takeaways

  • •The boss of a department can give money back if you paid a fee, tax, or charge by mistake.
  • •This rule is stronger than other rules, so even if another law says no refunds, this one can allow it.
  • •It only applies to money paid to that specific department.

Example

You pay a $50 fee for a park permit, but the fee was supposed to be $30.

The department boss can decide to give you the extra $20 back because you paid too much.
