§ 27671 Egg Safety Violations Penalties

Key Takeaways

  • •Breaking certain egg-related rules is a crime and can lead to fines or jail time.
  • •If you break the same rule more than once, you can be punished more severely.
  • •If your mistake could hurt people, the environment, or mess up egg sales, you’ll be in bigger trouble.
  • •You can be punished even if you didn’t mean to break the rule, but the punishment is less harsh.

Example

A farmer doesn’t clean their egg storage area properly, and rats get into the eggs.

This could make people sick, so the farmer broke the rules on purpose. They might have to pay up to $1,000 or even go to jail for up to 6 months.
