§ 27651 Egg Quality And Size Standards

Key Takeaways

  • •You can't sell eggs that haven't been checked for quality and size.
  • •If there's a big problem (like a disaster), a farmer can ask for special permission to sell ungraded eggs.
  • •This rule is for everyone selling eggs, not just farmers.

Example

A farmer tries to sell eggs at a local market without checking their size or quality.

The farmer could get in trouble because the law says all eggs must be graded before selling. If a storm destroys the grading equipment, the farmer can ask the director for permission to sell the eggs anyway.

§ 27651 Egg Quality And Size Standards

It is unlawful for any person to sell to any retailer, consumer, or institution consumer, any eggs which are ungraded as to quality and size, except that the director, upon the written application of any producer, may find and proclaim that an emergency exists which prevents the normal marketing of eggs by the applicant and other producers in the same area.
