§ 24118 Animal Sale After Notice

• •If no one claims a lost animal within 14 days, the animal can be sold.
• •The owner must pay all costs for the animal before getting it back.
• •Once sold, the new owner gets full rights to the animal.

A dog is found wandering and taken to a shelter. The shelter posts a notice to find the owner.

If no one claims the dog in 14 days, or if the owner doesn’t pay the shelter’s costs, the shelter can sell the dog. The new owner then legally owns the dog.
