§ 20607 Cattle Brand Ownership Rules

• •You can't put your brand on someone else's cow unless you own it.
• •If you brand a cow, it must be registered under the owner's name with the Bureau of Livestock Identification.
• •You need the owner's permission to brand their cow.

If you see a cow without a brand and put your own brand on it to claim it as yours.

This is against the law because you don't own the cow and didn't get permission from the real owner. The brand also isn't registered under the owner's name.
