§ 19401 Meat Sales Exemptions

• •This law does not apply to small amounts of fresh or processed meat (5 pounds or less) sold directly to a person.
• •This law also does not apply to canned or prepackaged meat (5 pounds or less) if the label clearly lists the ingredients in order of how much is inside.
• •If you buy a small package of meat or a can of meat, this law doesn’t cover it.

You go to the grocery store and buy a 3-pound package of ground beef.

This law doesn’t apply to your purchase because it’s fresh meat and weighs less than 5 pounds.
