§ 17042 Estray Animal Reporting Requirements

This law says if you find a stray animal, you have to keep it safe and quickly tell the secretary about it.

Key Takeaways

  • •Secure the stray animal right away.
  • •File a notice with the secretary as soon as possible.
  • •The notice must include a description, any marks or brands, the animal's likely value, and the date and place you found it.

Example

You see a loose dog in the neighborhood, you put the dog in a fenced yard, and then you send a report to the secretary.

You must lock the dog up so it can't run away, and then you must send a notice that says what the dog looks like, any tags or brands, how much the dog might be worth, and where and when you found it.
