§ 13182 School Pest Management Policy

This law says schools must use the safest, least poisonous ways to control pests and make sure any staff who use pesticides are trained on safe, kid‑friendly methods.

Key Takeaways

  • •Schools must prefer pest‑control methods that are the least toxic.
  • •The state will help schools adopt these safer methods.
  • •Any school staff who apply pesticides must be trained in integrated pest management and child‑health safety.

Example

A school has an ant problem and chooses to use bait stations and good cleaning instead of spraying a strong chemical.

Because the law requires the least toxic approach, the school picks non‑chemical traps and makes sure the maintenance crew has taken a training class on safe pest control for kids.
