§ 12671 Pesticide Residue Limits

This law says you can't pack, ship, or sell any fruits or veggies that have more pesticide on them than the amount the director says is allowed.

Key Takeaways

  • •You may not pack, ship, or sell produce with pesticide residue above the allowed limit.
  • •The allowed limit (permissible tolerance) is decided by the director.
  • •Doing so is illegal and can lead to penalties.

Example

A farmer puts strawberries in boxes to send to a grocery store, but the strawberries have pesticide levels higher than the limit set by the director.

Because the pesticide amount is too high, the farmer is breaking the law by trying to sell those strawberries.
