§ 11935 Financial Responsibility Security

This law says anyone doing pest control must show they can pay at least $25,000 if they cause damage, by getting a bond or an insurance policy.

Key Takeaways

  • •You must be able to pay at least $25,000 for any damage caused by pest‑control work.
  • •You can prove this by getting a surety bond or an insurance policy.
  • •The amount you provide must be $25,000 or more; anything less is not enough.

Example

A pest‑control company wants to spray a house for termites.

The company must give proof that it can cover up to $25,000 in damages, either by buying a surety bond or an insurance policy, before it can start the work.

How to Calculate

Required security ≥ $25,000

  1. Find out how much security (bond or insurance) you have.
  2. Compare that amount to $25,000.
  3. If the amount is $25,000 or more, you meet the law; if it is less, you need more security.

A pest‑control operator purchases a surety bond for $30,000.

Result: Since $30,000 ≥ $25,000, the operator satisfies the law.
