§ 800 Witness Opinion Testimony Limits

• •If someone saw something happen, they can tell the court what they think about it, but only if it's based on what they actually saw.
• •Their opinion must help the court understand their story better.
• •They can't give expert opinions unless they're an expert witness.

You see a car crash at an intersection.

You can tell the court you think the red car was speeding because it looked like it was going really fast when it hit the blue car. But you can't say how fast it was going exactly unless you're a car crash expert.
