§ 9147 Referendum Petition Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •If people want to challenge a new rule made by the local government, they can start a vote (referendum) to stop it.
  • •The vote must have a clear title saying it’s against the rule made by the government.
  • •The petition (the paper people sign) must include the exact words of the rule they want to challenge.

Example

The local government makes a rule that says no one can have a dog in their yard.

If people don’t like this rule, they can make a petition with the title 'Vote Against the No-Dogs Rule' and include the exact words of the rule in the petition. If enough people sign, there can be a vote to stop the rule.
