§ 9108 Petition Circulation Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •You can start collecting signatures for a petition after the county counsel publishes a title and summary for it.
  • •Only registered voters in the county can sign the petition.
  • •Every part of the petition must include a copy of the notice of intention and the title and summary from the county counsel.

Example

A group wants to change a local rule about school funding.

They write a petition and give it to the county counsel. Once the counsel writes a short title and summary, the group can start asking registered voters in the county to sign it. Each page of the petition must have the title, summary, and a note saying they plan to change the rule.
