§ 8148 Candidate Nomination Certificates

Key Takeaways

  • •The state must send a list of candidates to each county at least 68 days before the big election.
  • •The list includes the names of all candidates running for office in that county.
  • •For candidates from a political party, the list shows which party they belong to.
  • •For other offices, the list shows what the candidate chose to call themselves on the ballot.

Example

Imagine it's almost time for the big election where people vote for governor. The state makes a list of all the people running for governor and sends it to every county in the state.

This list helps the counties know who should be on the ballot when people go to vote. If someone is running as a Democrat or Republican, the list says that. If it's a different kind of office, the list shows what the candidate wants to be called on the ballot.
