§ 6596 Nomination Paper Examination

Key Takeaways

  • •If you sign a paper to support someone running for office, your name must match the way you wrote it when you registered to vote.
  • •If you didn’t say you support the same political party as the person you’re signing for, your signature won’t count.
  • •The person in charge of elections checks these papers and marks the ones that don’t follow the rules.

Example

You sign a paper to help your friend run for office as a Democrat, but you didn’t write your name the same way as on your voter registration.

Your signature won’t count because it doesn’t match your voter registration exactly.
