§ 6122 Presidential Primary Signature Timing

Key Takeaways

  • •People collecting signatures for a presidential candidate can only do it during a specific time.
  • •That time is between 120 days and 81 days before the presidential primary election.
  • •If they collect signatures too early or too late, it doesn’t count.

Example

If the presidential primary election is on March 5th, someone wants to collect signatures starting on October 1st.

They can’t start collecting signatures on October 1st because it’s too early. They have to wait until November 5th (120 days before March 5th) to start and must stop by January 14th (81 days before March 5th).
