§ 4104 Mail Ballot Election Approval

Key Takeaways

  • •The first time a district uses mail-in ballots for an election, they must ask voters if they want to keep using mail-in ballots for all future elections.
  • •Voters will see a simple 'Yes' or 'No' question on their ballot about this.
  • •If most voters say 'Yes,' then all future elections in that district will use mail-in ballots.
  • •If most voters say 'No,' the district can ask the same question again in a later election.

Example

Imagine your town decides to try voting by mail for the first time. When you get your ballot in the mail, there’s an extra question on it.

The question asks, 'Should we keep using mail-in ballots for all future elections?' You check 'Yes' or 'No.' If more than half of the people in your town check 'Yes,' then from now on, all elections in your town will be done by mail. If most people check 'No,' the town can ask the same question again in another election later.
