§ 2159 Paid Voter Registration Compensation Disclosure

Key Takeaways

  • •If you get paid to help someone register to vote, you must write your name, phone number, and address on their registration form.
  • •You also have to write down who is paying you to do this.
  • •If you lie about helping someone register to vote (when you actually didn’t), you can get in trouble with the law.
  • •Even if you forget to write your info, the person’s vote registration is still valid.

Example

A person is paid by a group to help people sign up to vote. They collect forms but don’t write their name or contact info on them.

This person broke the law because they didn’t add their info to the forms. But the people who registered can still vote. If the person also lies and says they helped someone register when they didn’t, they could get in trouble.
