§ 2 Petition Signature Verification Form

This law lets a county elections official require everyone who gathers signatures for petitions (like recalls or initiatives) to use one standard form that the county provides.

Key Takeaways

  • •County election officials can create a single, standard petition form.
  • •All petitions that need voter signatures (initiatives, referendums, recalls, nominating petitions, etc.) must use that form.
  • •The rule applies to petitions filed in that county, city, school district, or special district.

Example

A neighborhood group wants to start a petition to recall a city council member and needs signatures from voters in the county.

Because of this law, the county elections official can tell the group they must use the county’s official petition form for every signature they collect and submit.
