§ 13311 Confidential Filing Statements

This law says that any statements filed under Section 13307 stay secret until the filing deadline is over, even if the public records law would normally make them public.

Key Takeaways

  • •Statements filed under Section 13307 are kept confidential.
  • •The confidentiality rule overrides the California Public Records Act.
  • •The statements stay secret only until the filing deadline expires.

Example

A group submits a written statement to the state about a new ballot measure they want to put on the ballot.

Even though the public records law usually lets anyone see such statements, this law keeps the group's statement hidden until the deadline for filing those statements passes.
