§ 10001 Statewide Special Election Rules

This law says that, unless another law says something different, special elections in the whole state must be set up, run, and counted the same way as regular elections.

Key Takeaways

  • •Special elections must use the same rules as regular elections.
  • •The rule only changes if another specific law says otherwise.
  • •It applies to every special election across the whole state.

Example

A state senator resigns and a special election is needed to pick a replacement.

The state has to follow the same steps it uses for a normal election—like setting a date, letting people vote, and counting the votes—because this law says special elections follow the general election rules unless another law says otherwise.
