§ 89510 Nonacademic Employee Leave Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •Bosses can let workers take time off without pay if they're not teachers.
  • •If there's a special work agreement that says something different, that agreement wins.
  • •But if that agreement needs money, the government has to say yes first.

Example

A school janitor wants to take 3 months off to travel but has no paid leave left.

The school can say yes to the time off, but the janitor won’t get paid. If the janitor’s union has a rule that says they should get paid, that rule applies instead—but only if the government has already agreed to pay for it.
