§ 88105 Temporary Employee Appointments

Key Takeaways

  • •This rule is for short-term jobs that last 6 months or less.
  • •If someone is hired to fill in for a worker who is away, the job ends when that worker comes back.
  • •The boss must say how long the job will probably last when asking to hire someone.
  • •People are picked for these jobs based on who is next in line on the hiring list and if they want the job.

Example

A teacher goes on maternity leave for 4 months. The school needs someone to teach her class while she is away.

The school must say the job is for 4 months. They pick the next person on the hiring list who wants a short-term job. When the teacher comes back, the short-term job ends.
