§ 87733 Faculty Dismissal Report Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •If a teacher is being fired, a big group can't send a report about them to the boss unless the teacher gets to read it first and say what they think.
  • •The teacher must get the final report at least 10 days before it goes to the boss.
  • •The report is only for the boss and the people who helped write it, unless the teacher doesn’t ask for a meeting to talk about it.

Example

A teacher named Mr. Smith is about to be fired. A big teachers' group writes a report saying he’s not doing a good job.

Before the group sends the report to the school boss, they must let Mr. Smith read it and write down his side of the story. They also have to give him the final report 10 days before sending it. If Mr. Smith doesn’t ask for a meeting to fight the firing, the report can be shared with others.
