§ 8706 Environmental Education Interdependence

Key Takeaways

  • •Schools should teach kids how nature and living things are connected, not just random facts.
  • •Kids should learn how people’s actions (like pollution or cutting trees) affect nature.
  • •The goal is to help kids understand that humans need nature to survive, and nature needs humans to take care of it.

Example

A teacher is explaining why bees are important.

Instead of just saying ‘bees make honey,’ the teacher explains how bees help flowers grow, which gives us food, and how using too many chemicals can hurt bees and mess up the whole system.

§ 8706 Environmental Education Interdependence

The Legislature further finds and declares that in all grade levels, environmental facts should be taught as they relate to each other, rather than as isolated bits of information, and that students should become aware of the interrelated nature of living processes, gain understanding of ecological relationships and of the effect of human activities upon these relationships, and become sensitive to the interdependence of man and natural resources. (Enacted by Stats. 1976, Ch. 1010.)
