§ 84042 Community College Expenditure Elections

Key Takeaways

  • •If a community college wants to spend more money than the law allows, they have to ask voters first.
  • •The vote must be set up like a regular school bond election.
  • •The notice must tell people when, where, and why the vote is happening.
  • •The ballot must clearly show how much more money the college wants to spend.

Example

A community college wants to spend $10 million more this year than the law allows.

The college must hold a special vote and tell voters exactly how much extra money they want to spend. The ballot will ask: 'Should the college spend $50 million instead of $40 million this year?' If most voters say yes, the college can spend the extra money.
