§ 84030 Community College Accounting Standards

Key Takeaways

  • •Community colleges must follow the same money rules from a special book called the 'California Community Colleges Budget and Accounting Manual'.
  • •The money rules don't tell schools what to teach or how to teach it.
  • •Teachers, students, and school leaders decide what to teach, not the money rules.

Example

A community college wants to start a new cooking class.

The school must follow the money rules from the special book to pay for the class, but the book doesn't say whether they can or can't have the cooking class. The teachers and school leaders decide if they want to offer the class.

No accounting manual so approved shall expressly or by implication affect the content of any educational program or objective, except as otherwise specifically provided for by this code. The Legislature hereby finds that the content shall be best determined by those involved in the administration of educational programs, including community college district governing boards, local administrators, instructors, and students. (Amended by Stats. 1990, Ch. 1372, Sec. 634.)
