§ 81455 Community College Equipment Exchange

Key Takeaways

  • •Community colleges can trade old appliances (like fridges or ovens) for new ones without asking for bids from different sellers.
  • •The new appliance must be the same type as the old one (e.g., swapping a fridge for a fridge).
  • •The college can’t pay more than the difference between the new appliance’s price and the old one’s original cost, plus tax.
  • •This rule is only for appliances used for teaching, not for random stuff.

Example

A community college has an old oven used in cooking classes. They want to swap it for a new oven.

The college can trade the old oven for a new one without asking other stores for bids. They only pay the difference between the new oven’s price and what they originally paid for the old oven, plus tax.
