§ 81422 Joint Use Property Approval

Key Takeaways

  • •Before renting out school property, the school board must check if it will cause problems for classes or school activities.
  • •The school board has to make sure that sharing the space won’t mess up anything the school is already doing.
  • •This rule is for community college districts that want to lease or share their buildings or land.

Example

A community college wants to rent out its gym to a local basketball team for practice in the evenings.

The school board must first check if the basketball team’s practices will interfere with any school activities, like night classes or school events. If the gym is only used for classes during the day, and the basketball team practices at night when nothing else is happening, it might be okay. But if there’s a night class or a school play rehearsal that needs the gym, then the board can’t rent it out.
