§ 81310 Community College Property Transfers

Key Takeaways

  • •Community colleges can give away or sell their land for roads or highways without asking voters first.
  • •They can also let utility companies (like water, electric, or phone companies) use their land for pipes or wires without a vote.
  • •The land can be given for free or sold, and they can set their own rules for how it’s used.

Example

A community college owns an empty field next to a busy road. The city wants to widen the road to reduce traffic jams.

The college can decide to give or sell that field to the city for the road project without asking the voters in the area. They can work out the details directly with the city.
