§ 78018 Vocational Course Sequence Planning

Key Takeaways

  • •Community colleges must make a plan to help students move smoothly from middle school and high school to college job-training classes.
  • •The plan must list job areas where both high schools and colleges teach classes.
  • •The plan must explain how high school students can earn college credit for job-training classes they take early.
  • •The college must work with local schools and job programs to create this plan.

Example

A high school student takes a welding class at their school.

The community college’s plan must say whether that welding class counts for college credit, so the student doesn’t have to repeat it later.

(3) Establish an institutionwide process and criteria for awarding community college credit for vocational courses taken by pupils in high school or through the regional occupational center or program. (b) The plan shall be adopted by the governing board of the community college district on or before July 1, 2008.
