§ 75004 Online College Name Protection

Key Takeaways

  • •The California Online Community College can sue or be sued like any other entity.
  • •No one can use the name 'California Online Community College' (or any part of it) for their own business, group, or product without permission.
  • •You can't use the college's name to make it seem like they support or oppose something (like a strike or political movement).
  • •You can still truthfully say you went there or worked there when talking about your own experience.

Example

A local tutoring company wants to name itself 'California Online Community Tutors' to attract students.

They can't do this without permission from the college's board because it uses part of the college's name and might make people think the college supports them.
