§ 66027 Demographic Data Inclusion Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •Colleges in California should let students and staff choose to share their sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression on forms that ask for personal info like race or ethnicity.
  • •Colleges don’t have to change old forms, but any new or updated forms should include these options.
  • •Colleges should share summary info (not personal details) about this data with the government and the public every year, but only if people agree to it.
  • •No personal or identifying info will be shared in these reports.

Example

A student fills out a new form at their community college.

The form asks for their race, ethnicity, and now also lets them share if they want to about their sexual orientation or gender identity. The college will later share a summary of this info (without names) online and with the government, but only if the student and others say it’s okay.
