§ 60005 Curriculum Framework Adoption Process

Key Takeaways

  • •The state must let the public know and give them a chance to comment before making rules about school books and lessons.
  • •The rules must be written down clearly in the California Code of Regulations.
  • •The public can be part of the process when the state picks school books and lessons.
  • •The actual content of school lessons and the tools used to check them don’t need to follow the same strict rules as the process itself.

Example

The state wants to change how history is taught in schools.

Before they make any changes, they have to tell everyone about it, let parents and teachers give their opinions, and follow clear steps. But the actual history lessons don’t need to go through the same long process—just the way they decide on them does.
