§ 51460 Biliteracy Recognition Program

Key Takeaways

  • •The State Seal of Biliteracy is a special award for high school students who are really good at speaking, reading, and writing in another language besides English.
  • •Schools can choose if they want to be part of this program or not.
  • •The award helps students show they know another language, which can help them get jobs or into college.
  • •It also helps celebrate different cultures and languages in the community.

Example

A student who speaks Spanish at home and English at school works hard to become fluent in both languages.

If the student's school is part of the program, they can earn the State Seal of Biliteracy. This award can help them get into college or show future employers they are bilingual.
