§ 49411 School Chemical Safety Guidelines

Key Takeaways

  • •The state makes a list of chemicals used in schools and explains how dangerous they can be and how long they last.
  • •Schools must throw away old chemicals that have passed their safe-to-use time.
  • •The county can help schools get rid of these old chemicals or let schools handle it themselves.

Example

A school has a bottle of a science lab chemical that is 10 years old.

If the state's list says this chemical is only safe for 5 years, the school must throw it away to keep students and teachers safe. The county can help the school dispose of it properly.
