§ 49064 Pupil Record Access Log

Key Takeaways

  • •Schools must keep a list of who looks at or gets info from a student's school records.
  • •Parents, students, and some school staff don’t need to be on this list.
  • •Only parents, certain school officials, and government auditors can check this list.
  • •This rule helps keep track of who sees a student’s private school info.

Example

If a teacher wants to see a student’s test scores, the school writes down who asked and why.

The school keeps a log of who looks at the student’s records, like the teacher, and why they needed to see it. But if the student’s mom asks to see the records, the school doesn’t have to write that down.
