§ 48326 Chronic Absenteeism Reduction Methods

Key Takeaways

  • •By the 2026-27 school year, the state must put info online about ways to help kids who miss too much school.
  • •Schools should find out why kids are missing school by talking to them and their families.
  • •Schools can make plans to help kids come to school more, like giving families support or even visiting homes.
  • •Schools can team up with outside groups (like health or community centers) to help fix the problem.

Example

A kid named Alex misses a lot of school because he has to take care of his little sister while his mom works.

The school can talk to Alex and his mom to figure out why he’s missing school. Then, they might help by finding a free after-school program for his sister or giving his mom a list of local daycare options. They could even send someone to visit Alex at home to check in and offer help.
