§ 48216 School Immunization Exclusion Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •Kids must get their shots (vaccines) to go to school.
  • •If a kid doesn’t have their shots, the school will tell their parents they have two weeks to fix it.
  • •Parents can show proof of shots or a valid reason why their kid can’t get them.
  • •The school will help parents find a place to get the shots if they don’t have a doctor.

Example

A 6-year-old starts kindergarten but hasn’t had their measles vaccine.

The school will tell the parents they have two weeks to get the vaccine or show a valid excuse (like a doctor’s note saying the kid can’t get it). If they don’t, the kid can’t go to school until they do.
