§ 44848 Reemployment Date Rules

• •If a school employee quits or is fired for a good reason, and then gets hired again, their new start date is when they first got paid after being rehired.
• •If a school employee stops working because there aren’t enough students or the program ends, their original hire date stays the same if the law says it’s not a real break in work.
• •The rules are different if the employee was rehired before July 1, 1947, or after that date.

A teacher gets fired for being late too many times but is later rehired by the same school.

When the teacher starts working again, their new hire date isn’t their old one—it’s the first day they got paid after being rehired.
