§ 35786 School District Attachment Orders

Key Takeaways

  • •If a school district closes, its area gets added to nearby school districts starting July 1 after the decision is made.
  • •The decision doesn’t have to follow the usual public meeting rules right away.
  • •But by December 1 of the same year, they must follow those public meeting rules.

Example

A small school district closes because there aren’t enough students.

The kids in that area will start going to a nearby school on July 1. The school board doesn’t have to hold a public meeting right away to decide this, but they must do it by December 1.
