Key Takeaways

  • •Schools and colleges can't use their employees' work time to help someone else get a copyright.
  • •But schools can get copyrights for things they create themselves.
  • •The copyright must be in the school's name, not a person's or company's name.

Example

The school can't make the teacher spend work time to help a publisher copyright the book. But if the school writes a book, they can copyright it under the school's name.
