Key Takeaways

  • •If someone dies and they were part of the Cash Balance Benefit Program, their family or chosen person can get the death benefit money.
  • •The money can be paid out as soon as the program gets proof that the person died.
  • •Other laws or rules about waiting to get this money don’t apply here.

Example

A person who worked for the government and was part of the Cash Balance Benefit Program passes away. Their spouse asks for the death benefit money.
