§ 24210 Disability To Service Retirement

Key Takeaways

  • •If you retire after being on disability retirement before, your retirement pay is calculated in two parts.
  • •The first part is based on the time you worked before you went on disability retirement.
  • •The second part is based on the time you worked after your disability retirement ended.
  • •Your retirement pay is the sum of these two parts.

Example

John was a firefighter who got hurt on the job and went on disability retirement. After he recovered, he went back to work for a few more years and then retired for good.

John's retirement pay will be calculated by adding two amounts: one for the time he worked before his disability retirement and another for the time he worked after he recovered and went back to work.
