§ 22158 Disability Allowance Service Calculation

Key Takeaways

  • •Projected service is the total time you worked plus the time you would have worked if you weren't disabled.
  • •To figure out how much time you would have worked in a year, look at the most time you worked in any one of the last three years before you got disabled or died.
  • •Time you worked where money went to the Defined Benefit Supplement Program doesn't count.

Example

A teacher works full-time for 5 years, then gets hurt and can't work for 2 years. Before getting hurt, the most they worked in one year was 1 school year.

The teacher's projected service is the 5 years they worked plus the 2 years they would have worked if they weren't hurt. So, total projected service is 7 years.
