§ 17484 Interdistrict School Property Sales

Key Takeaways

  • •School districts can sell old buildings or stuff to another school district they control without asking for bids or following usual selling rules.
  • •The price is set by the school board, not by competition or outside offers.
  • •The buyer must move the bought item off the seller's property within 60 days.

Example

Imagine School District A has an old portable classroom they don’t need anymore. School District B, which is run by the same school board, wants to buy it.

The school board can sell the portable classroom directly to School District B without asking other buyers for offers or following the normal selling rules. They just set a price and sell it. But School District B has to move the classroom off School District A’s property within 60 days.
