§ 17390 Surplus School Property Use

Key Takeaways

  • •The school committee looks at how many kids are expected to go to school and figures out if there's extra space or land they don't need.
  • •They make a list of the best ways to use the extra space or land, like selling or renting it for daycare centers.
  • •They ask the community what they think about these ideas and listen to their feedback.
  • •Finally, they decide the best uses for the extra space and tell the school board their recommendations.

Example

Imagine your local school has empty classrooms because fewer kids are enrolling. The school committee decides to use this extra space for something useful.

The committee checks how many kids will be in school, sees there's extra space, and makes a list of ideas like renting it out for a daycare. They ask parents and neighbors what they think, then pick the best idea and tell the school board.
